Prefectura: Nautical Assistance App for iPhone
Prefectura is an iPhone application developed by Prefectura Naval Argentina, designed to assist recreational sailors navigating waters under the jurisdiction of the Argentine Naval Prefecture. It is important to note that the app is not suitable for navigation purposes. The app provides information on port conditions, borders, river levels and their historical measurements, news updates, hydro-meteorological bulletin, notices, useful information on procedures, and the locations of various Argentine Naval Prefecture offices.
One of its standout features is the inclusion of access to the Automatic Identification System (AIS) for recreational sailors. While the device provides AIS information, it does not function as part of the AIS system itself, operating through an independent data network. This feature allows sailors to locate vessels in real-time, identify their positions, and directly communicate emergencies to the 106 hotline for nautical emergencies using the telephone network coverage.
